Come and have a glimpse of customs and costumes from the past.

Ann Dixon will present a talk about the customs surrounding births, deaths and marriages through the years combined with a display and talk about a wide range of costumes associated with these events.

Over the centuries there have been many customs and fashions associated with births, deaths and marriages.  Births and conception in particular, were surrounded by a network of bizarre superstitions.

Some of these traditions have endured; others have been lost over time.

Learn why a German botanist allowed his wife to hurl eggs at him.

Why do brides wear a veil?

Why do graves have grave stones?

These and other intriguing questions will be answered in this talk by Ann Dixon from Bygone Days, and many examples of clothing and accessories will be displayed and explained.

FREE. Bookings are essential.
